Panadol Advance is a tablet used to treat mild to moderate pain such as headache, menstrual pain, toothache and arthritis. It also helps reduce fever because it contains Paracetamol.

Panadol Advance Ingredients

The active substance in Panadol Advance is: Paracetamol at a concentration of 500 mg.

Inside the disc contains:

  • Magnesium Stearate
  • wet starch
  • Distilled water
  • Calcium carbonate
  • alginic acid
  • crospovidone
  • Povidone (K-25)
  • Anhydrous colloidal silica

The outer cover of the disc consists of:

  • carnauba wax

Panadol Advance dosage

  • For children aged 6 to 12 years, half to one tablet can be taken daily, taking care not to give the child more than 4 tablets in 24 hours.
  • For people over 12 years old, take 1 to 2 tablets every 4 to 6 hours. Adults should not give more than 8 tablets in 24 hours.
  • When taking Panadol, do not crush the tablet, because crushing it may cause it to be absorbed faster than usual.

Contraindications to the use of Panadol Advance

Panadol Advance should not be used in patients with hypersensitivity to paracetamol. Children should not be given Panadol Advance 500 mg Tablets for longer than 3 days without consulting a doctor. Patients who suffer from arthritis and need to take painkillers every day should consult their doctor before using Panadol Advance for a long time. Caution should be exercised in patients with glutathione depletion states, as the use of paracetamol may increase the risk of developing metabolic acidosis (a condition that causes high acidity of the blood and body).

Paracetamol increases the effect of anti-blood-clotting medicines if it is used for long periods and regularly, and this increases the risk of bleeding, so you should ask your doctor before taking any of these medicines in conjunction with taking Panadol.

Consult your doctor if you take too much Panadol Advance, even if you feel fine because taking too much paracetamol can damage your liver.
Do not take any other medicinal product containing paracetamol while taking Panadol Advance.

Panadol Advance drug interactions

  • Metoclopramide or domperidone can increase how quickly Panadol is absorbed.
  • Colestyramine compounds can reduce its absorption.
  • Taking Panadol Advance during pregnancy and lactation
  • Studies on the neurodevelopment of fetuses exposed to paracetamol in utero show unclear results, so Panadol Advance can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding, but it should be taken at the lowest dose for the shortest possible period.

Panadol Advance side effects

The use of Panadol Advance to treat temporary pain has no significant side effects, and some clinical trials have found that the side effects of Panadol Advance are rare, and there are some serious but very rare effects such as:

  • bronchospasm
  • thrombocytopenia
  • Cutaneous hypersensitivity reactions including rash and angioedema.

Panadol Advance overdose

This drug from Panadol Advance or Paracetamol may have serious harm as it can lead to liver failure, and this harm can happen to adults if they take a dose of 10g or more of Paracetamol, and if the patient has risk factors for liver disease, taking 5g may lead From paracetamol to liver damage.

Symptoms of an overdose of Panadol Advance

During the first 24 hours of taking the drug overdose, the patient may show some signs, including:

  • paleness
  • Nausea and vomiting.
  • Anorexia.
  • Abdominal pain.

Liver damage may occur after 12 to 48 hours, and in cases of severe poisoning, liver failure may develop into encephalopathy, bleeding and hypoglycemia.

Liver damage may not occur, but an overdose can lead to an irregular heartbeat and inflammation of the pancreasIf the patient takes an overdose of paracetamol, he should get immediate treatment even before symptoms appear, so he must be referred immediately to the hospital, and symptoms may be limited to nausea and vomiting and do not develop further than that.
The patient can be given activated charcoal if he has taken an overdose of the drug within one hour, and the concentration of paracetamol in the blood must be measured 4 hours after taking the drug because its measurement before that will not be documented.

The difference between blue and red panadol

Panadol Advance is known as Panadol Blue, while Panadol Extra is known as Panadol Red, and both types contain paracetamol as an active substance, but the difference between the two types is:

Panadol Red contains caffeine with 65 mg caffeine. Equipped with technology that makes it faster to absorb as it starts working in 10 minutes, while Panadol Blue may take up to an hour to start working (But a new formulation of Panadol Advance Blue called opti zorb was provided and it was announced that it was absorbed in just 5 minutes) .Panadol Red relieves moderate and mild pain, while Panadol Red helps relieve severe pain such as muscle and joint pain, toothache and also helps treat symptoms caused by colds, flu, headaches, migraines and menstrual pain in women.

Panadol Blue can be given to children from 6 years of age at a lower dose than the adult dose, while Panadol Red is not recommended for children under 12 years of age.
