We all saw how a horrible mess and full of drama the golden globes were this year. the Golden Globes are awards given annually by the 93 members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) for outstanding achievements in film and television. The awards ceremony is typically held in January and is considered one of the major events in the entertainment industry. Selena Gomez drama with Taylor Swift created the controversy
Taylor and Selena’s Drama at the Golden Globes:
The Golden Globes were riddling with controversy for years on the clause that the voting body for the awards had no black members and that the voting body would solicit favors from the celebrities and movie studios. This was also following by revealing that the voting body would often resort to racist and sexist jokes or remarks. –2021 Los Angeles Times exposé
This is why NBC was dropping the broadcast for the Golden Globes only to bring it back in 2023, updating the bylaws, code of conduct and banning gifts etc. Golden Globes – founded by HFPA (Hollywood Foreign Press Association) was dissolved – was taken over by the Elridge Industries.
Moving to Award Show:
Moving on to the award show itself, the host of the Golden Globes 2024 was Jo Koy – A 52-year-old comedian. He has six comedy specials on Comedy Central and Netflix, and was invited to host the Golden Globes 10 days ago before the event. Jo Koy started the event with humorous jokes that weren’t there to cause any harm but unfortunately, he did a lot of damage to his reputation. Not only were those jokes unfunny but uncomfortably sexist and disrespectful. From Jabs to the Barbie movie to the Americana girl Taylor Swift, his humor was not well received by the star-studded audience.
Starting the event, Jo Koy joked, and I quote, “The big difference between the Golden Globes and the NFL? On the Golden Globes, we have fewer camera shots of Taylor Swift, I swear.” Whether this was a jab at the NFL press or at Taylor Swift, it was definitely not received. The camera pan at Taylor Swift immediately after the joke showing Taylor with a straight-face and taking a sip of her drink. Many term this as Taylor being pissed at the joke while others interpreted as her trying not to give any reaction at all which is why she sip on her drink. While Taylor Swift kept a straight face, her bestie of 15 years, Selena Gomez could be seen lowering her head with her hands in front of her face showing that she did not like Koy’s words about her best friend.
Travis Kelce
Taylor Swift’s boyfriend is the NFL’s (National Football Team) Travis Kelce. Earlier that week she had went to the NFL in support of her boyfriend Travis’ Chief games. While she was attending the game, the NFL press was sure to record and present each and every reaction of Taylor Swift to the audience whenever Travis hit the ball. While this may have made some people in the audience who came for the game to become upset, Taylor revealed in Times explaining her situation at the game. “I’m just there to support Travis. I have no awareness of if I’m being shown too much and pissing off a few dads, Brads and Chads.” Whether Koy’s jab was at the power couple or just to make a light-hearted joke, it was not well-received.
Even though Taylor did leave the show early after not winning the award for the nomination of her record breaking “Taylor Swift: The Era’s Tour concert film. She did indeed enjoy the rest of her day at the Golden Globes, cheering, drinking, and taking pictures with her friends.
Who Recorded?
Moving on from Taylor Swift, her best friend Selena Gomez was also a highlight of the day’s drama. A clip was recorded by a person in the audience and out where Selena Gomez goes up to her friends Taylor Swift and Keleigh Teller and chatting with them. While conversing, Selena shares something that had Taylor and Keleigh give shocking reactions which had the fans curious as to what the conversation was actually about.
Relating to the previous year’s drama and beef that Selena Gomez had with Kylie Jenner and Hailee Bieber, the fans ended up convoluting a whole new drama between Selena Gomez and Kylie. A lip reader ended up posting what she had caught to be the “supposed” conversation between Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez. The conversation was then assume to be how Selena went and asked for Timothee Chalamet – her long -time friend – for a picture but was denied by Kylie, his girlfriend and date for the Golden Globes. This supposedly resulted in Taylor and Keleigh to give such a shocked reaction. The conversation was as, “I asked for a picture with him and she (Kylie Jenner) said no.” – Selena Gomez. After hearing this Taylor asks, “with Timothee?” to which Selena Gomez nods.
Kylie Jenner
Kylie Jenner was definitely not nominating for any movie this year but was attending the Golden Globes as Timothy’s date. Even though this whole scandal and drama was by the fans. Selena didn’t accept of ever conversing about such a thing and revealed what she actually was saying. On an E! News Instagram post, Selena denied of the accusations and speculations from the rumors with a simple comment, “Noooooo I told Taylor about two of my friends who hooked up.”
Followed by “Not that that’s anyone business.” With that, all the rumors striking down. Other than that, it was also mentioned how Selena Gomez had not even seen the couple. So, saying that she went and talk to them was too far-fetched. Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez are best friends for the past 15 years, it is no surprise that the share many secrets and conversations with each other regardless of the topic in concern.
Conclusion:
All in all, the Golden Globes were a mess right from the start with Jo Koy as the comedian as the host. While Koy did threw the writers of his script for the show under the bus by blaming them for the jokes, he claims to never again host any shows. However, the fans and public opinion says that after this day, it is most unlikely for Koy to ever get any offer to host anyways. Following Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez’s drama, and many other ironic unfunny jokes thrown at the movie “Barbie”, and Keltie Knight unexpectedly losing a 4k Diamond from her ring. All of this sums up to Golden Globes 2024 being a horrible mess and full of drama by both celebrities and the public.
