Lewis Hamilton Praises Grand Prix Triumph of Max Verstappen

Lewis Hamilton later told Sky Sports, “What a result for our team. “We definitely weren’t expecting to have this result today, so I just want to take my hat off to my team and a big, big thank you to everyone back at the factory who are continuing to push and bringing us closer to the (Red) Bulls,” said the team’s captain.
Lewis Hamilton praises The Spanish Grand Prix triumph of Max Verstappen as a “amazing result” for Mercedes and their first Dual podium of the year.
Lewis Hamilton came in second and George Russell third in the Spanish Grand Prix, which was winning once again by the unstoppable Max Verstappen, giving Mercedes its first double podium of the year.
At the Grand Prix, Hamilton put on a strong effort, passing Carlos Sainz of Ferrari to claim second place, and he never appearing to be about to give it up.
Russell moved up nine positions behind him as he made his way through the field to third place, holding off a late push from Sergio Perez in the all-powerful Red Bull car.
Hopefully a harbinger of things to come, Russell later told Sky Sports. “Just putting those lap numbers in and comparing with the other guys, Aston and Ferrari, we’re just quicker and quicker and quicker, it definitely feels better. I’m ecstatic to be on the podium.
Since that tragic race in Abu Dhabi 18 months ago, when the British driver controversially missed out on a record-breaking eighth world championship, Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton have found it difficult to reach their typical heights.
Hamilton and Russell finished sixth and fourth in the drivers’ championship last year, respectively, despite Red Bull’s domination since. Russell is now in second place this year, one spot behind Hamilton, who is currently in fourth.
In the hopes of outpacing its current opponents, including Aston Martin and Ferrari, even if Red Bull is still far ahead of the rest of the field, Mercedes debuted their updating car for the first time this season during the event.
Toto Wolff, team principal for Mercedes, said thereafter to Sky Sports, “We took some decisions to go in another direction.”
“We modified a lot of things, which led to factors we couldn’t explain. Therefore, it was a hazardous move. But everyone persevered, and we ends up with a good race car. To realise that this cannot continue, I believe we only needed the shock at the start of the season.
Verstappen won his third straight race and fifth out of seven this season, but the upgraded vehicle was still no match for him. Hamilton later added, moderating hopes, “I think (Red Bull is) still a little bit too quick at the moment, but we’re working on it.” “One step at a time, and if we can get close by the end of the year, that would be awesome, but if not next year.”
