Food vlogger Ribah khan encountered interesting Qs
Tell us about yourself and this journey.
i was born and raised in Riyadh. Throughout my childhood, I was a shy kid and an introvert who was even shy to talk. Since childhood, I had a passion to be an architect. In contrast, while I was in Delhi for a university to become an architect, I found myself in a completely new universe when it came to cultural norms, traditions, and more. The way of living in Riyadh was completely different from the way it was in Delhi. It seemed as if everything had flipped on its head. It was a complete 360-degree change. The experience of living there and doing things on my own strengthened my self-confidence and made me more self-sufficient. Things began to move from introvert to extrovert as I made new friends.
How did it all begin? when did that happen? Where did you get your ideas and motivation?
As I’ve always liked the food, I used to order it all the time. In Delhi, i used to order food from an app called Zomato and started to review there for fun to a point that I reached the connoisseur level on the app which was a huge deal back then.
One day, I got an invite from a newly opened waffle joint to try things from their menu, and honestly, I had no idea that such a thing even exists. It made me realize that I could share my food experiences with a wider audience and not just limit myself to a delivery app. The trip began here, and I wanted to show people foodie things and new ways to enjoy life. This is where I am now because of what I did in 2017. Then I made a page of feed bites, but I still had a lot of doubts and hadn’t posted in almost a year.
What was the most interesting thing you found while you were Vlogging?
I like getting to know people through my vlogs. It turned me from a shy person into a friendly one and then into an interesting food vlogger.
Do you also blog about food outside of Saudi?
Not yet, I just did it in Delhi and Saudi Arabia.
Do you feel like you and other influencers are in a race against each other?
I don’t think this is a case of competition. Everyone has different skills and abilities. They are good at different things. I get ideas from people who have a lot of influence. Competition makes people angry, and if you want to be an influencer, you need to be happy and spread love and awareness.
What makes it hard for you to do this vlog and your job at the same time?
I’m an architect however I work as a marketing manager for a company that deals with food and beverage. But my love of architecture and my desire to connect with people through blogging and more as food vlogger have given me the strength and power to do both my job and my vlog.
You have a lot going on and are good at a lot of things. Do you think society is ready to accept a woman who can do a lot of different things?
With the changing mindsets and what I see, society has come to terms of not only women should be equal but are also holding good positions for quite a few decades
for example – the CEO of Pepsi co is a Woman.
now as far as the idea of holding multiple jobs are concerned, I think it’s not just women but men equally that society is probably in the nascent stages of starting except for the fact that one can do multiple positions in developing nations or the second or third world countries I think the society is yet to get a kickstart on taking in the fact that one person cannot be just limited to one single label. you have multiple dimensions you are a mother, a teacher may be a painter or a musician or at work, you are an architect.
The world has to just get out of the box to visualize that whether it is a man or a woman anyone can hold multiple positions and interests. I hope that people will be ready to accept the skilled woman. I don’t care about the criticism because for every bad comment, there are 10 good ones, which shows that society will change. Ignore the bad things people say and do what people love.
How much do you make by making videos about food? Can this be a good way to make money?
Yes, you can make good money by generating the content, but it surely takes time to get there. I’d tell youth who wish to get into vlogging to do it on top of their studies/jobs making sure to not hamper their current tasks cause it’s a slow process and it works differently with different ppl.
One month you might make a lot of money and in the next month, you might not make a lot so there’s always uncertainty. The whole point of blogging is to learn new things and to add value to your audience. So, I had rather say “don’t come for money, come for passion”
What steps did you take to become an influential person?
There are no such steps to becoming a successful food vlogger , to be honest. I don’t consider myself successful yet; I still have a lot to do. The most important thing to remember is to know what regular people want from you and what their interests are. How can you get to know them? If you know what your people want, you can make things better.
What’s next? Are you going to add anything else to your profile or do any other marketing work?
Since I know a lot about Riyadh, I want to show people what’s new or what’s going on there. For instance, if there were hot air balloons in Riyadh, I would want to be the first person to tell people to try them. If people in Riyadh come up with something new, I want to be the first person to help them.
Your marital status! If you’re single, what are your plans, and do you want to keep Vlogging?
Yes, I am single. However, I don’t think marriage in any way limits you from growing or gets in your way of success. In fact, I believe, the idea of companionship is beautiful, and you support each other and grow together.
What do people around you ask you the most?
Always, people ask.
Are you single?
How soon are you getting married?
From where do you come?
What do you do in real life?
These are the questions people most often ask.
Who gives you strength or gives you this energy?
Without a doubt, my family, especially my mom, helped me a lot. She told me to keep going with the flow and not stop. She gave me the strength to face my fear of failing. after that, it’s my brothers who are helps me in generating content selflessly. Then, of course, my friends whom I can count on my fingers but they are the best. And after that, it’s my followers who keep me going
What do you want all the bloggers and vloggers out there to know?
I will tell all bloggers, bloggers, and food vloggers to be themselves and try to get better at what they do. see what people are looking for and try to add value with what you create for your audience or the audience you wish to target. Get inspired by ppl in the world with similar interests as you and improvise. Work on yourself and try to be a better version of yourself. You always have the best in you!
Do you have any advice or words of encouragement for the women of the world?
I believe every woman is a superhero in her own story of life. She is so courageous and has immense potential to build herself.
The best advice I would give a woman is to never give up on her dreams and keep hustling. There could be a lot of hurdles on the way but be strong enough to get through. No matter where you come from, be financially independent cause the pleasure of spending your own money is incomparable
For women who is a homemaker, to be able to find time for their own selves from their busy schedules with the family and responsibilities. Taking time for yourself is not selfish at all. It’s rather a form of self-love and something which is really important for every individual to practice
