1. China

The Chinese government has announced that they will be hosting the Olympic games in Beijing in 2008, and then again in 2016. In both cases, the government decided to build massive infrastructure projects around the city to make sure everything was ready for the event. These projects included building over 10,000 temporary housing units, constructing over 1,500 miles of roads, and building over 2,400 public toilets. The Chinese have been dominating the world in sports for years. From their success in table tennis to their dominance in badminton, they have had a strong showing at the Olympics. They have won over half of the gold medals since the first modern Olympics in 1896. Their success in athletics is no different. Since the beginning of track and field events, the Chinese have dominated the sport. They have won over 90% of the gold medals.
2. Japan Olympic Games
Japan has had a long history of athletic excellence. They have produced some of the greatest athletes in the world including Usain Bolt, who holds the record for the fastest human ever recorded. They have also produced many successful Olympians including sprinter Asuka Cambridge.
3. The USA Olympic Games
The United States has always been a powerhouse in sports. They have won over 70% of the gold medals since 1900. However, their dominance in athletics is not as strong as it once was. They have only won about 40% of the gold medals in the last 100 years.
4. Russia Olympic Games
Russia has been a dominant force in athletics for decades. They have won over 80% of the gold medals and have produced many great athletes. Among them is Carl Lewis, who holds the records for most gold medals in both men’s and women’s sprinting events.
5. Australia

Australia has been a consistent winner in athletics for years. They have won over 25% of the gold medals in the past decade. They have also produced some great athletes including Cathy Freeman, who holds the record as the oldest person to win a gold medal in any event.
6. Great Britain Olympic Games
Great Britain has been a consistent competitor in athletics for years. Over the past decade, they have won around 20% of the gold medals, making them the second-most successful country in the sport.
7. South Korea Olympic Games
South Korea is another Asian country that has been preparing for the upcoming Olympics since 2011. That means that they’ve had time to construct facilities to house athletes and visitors. Most of these facilities have already opened, including the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, which opened in 2015.
8. Russia Olympic Games
Russia has invested heavily in its sports infrastructure in preparation for the upcoming Olympics. Many of the venues will open in time for the start of the Games. However, some won’t open until later. The Luzhniki Stadium, for example, won’t open until 2017.
9. The United States Olympic Games
The U.S. has spent billions of dollars to prepare for the Summer Olympics. Some of the facilities, like the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, haven’t opened yet. Other facilities like the Olympic Village are due to open soon.

10. Brazil Olympic Games
Brazil has invested heavily in its Olympic facilities. Rio de Janeiro is expected to host the opening ceremony and the closing ceremony. Since 1961, the same stadium has been used for both ceremonies. Check out our video to learn how!
