Copper IUD:

It works by creating an unsuitable environment for the sperm, which prevents fertilization and pregnancy. It prevents pregnancy by 99.9%. It can remain in the womb for 5 years. It works to prevent pregnancy since it is placed in the womb, preferably within 7 days of starting  menstruation

The hormonal coil:

It works by secreting hormones in the body, and it remains in the womb for 3 years, and it does not work from the moment it was installed. Rather, it needs at least a week to show its effectiveness.

How does the coil prevent pregnancy?

The hormonal IUD

It prevents pregnancy by secreting the hormone progestin, which causes an increase in the viscosity of cervical mucus and its secretion, which prevents sperm from reaching the egg, and even works to inhibit the ovulation process.

Copper IUD:

It does not secrete any hormones. Rather, the copper from which the IUD is made is considered a means for the occurrence of inflammation inside the uterus, which creates an environment that is not suitable for sperm to live, so fertilization or pregnancy does not occur.

Advantages of using an IUD as a method of birth control:

1. The coil is an inexpensive way to install it, as it remains for many years, up to 12 years.
2. Allows freedom of sexual intercourse without fear of pregnancy.
3. It can be used as a contraceptive during lactation.
4. Once removed, pregnancy occurs without problems.
5. The copper IUD does not affect the hormones in the body.
6. The hormonal IUD reduces menstrual cramps.

2. Back pain during the first week of its installation.
3. Drops of blood between the menstrual cycle and the other.
4. Irregular menstruation within 6 months of hormonal IUD insertion.
5. Increase in the intensity of the menstrual cycle with increased contractions with the copper.

7. It increases the chances of an ectopic pregnancy.
8. It is a foreign body inside the uterus, which may cause some infections.

Contraindications to IUD use:

1. If the woman has been exposed to an infection in the cervix after childbirth.
2. A miscarriage occurred within the last 3 months.
3. An infection with a sexually transmitted disease.

It is forbidden to place a hormonal IUD for a woman who suffers from liver disease or a woman who suffers from breast cancer.When you go to put the IUD, the doctor checks for any infections in the uterus or cervix, and the doctor may put a local anesthetic to reduce the pain of installing the IUD, and there may be some pain and cramps during its installation, and even a feeling of dizziness and lightheadedness may occur.

Symptoms that require consulting a doctor after having it  inserted:

If the woman cannot feel the thread of the coil, which means that it is moving.
If you suspect that you are pregnant.
If the menstrual cycle was heavier and longer than before the IUD was inserted.
Increased contractions of the uterus and abdomen.
Pain or bleeding during intercourse.
High temperature and cramps.
Irregular menstruation.
