Watson didn’t play much in the Browns’ previous three exhibition games, but head coach Kevin Stefanski handed him the whole opening frame over Kansas City (2-1). With 92 yards and a touchdown pass to David Njoku, he completed 5 of 10 passes.
Stefanski remarked, “I believe he got around 20 plays, and it looked like we saw everything in those 20 plays.
There were passes into the end zone, scramble plays, third down, some very excellent balls, and other stuff that I’m sure he desires back. Deshaun was placed in a variety of scenarios that we encountered, all of which were quite beneficial.
Other than that, both teams rested a number of their stars for their preseason finale — Patrick Mahomes instead Travis Kelce were both unavailable for Kansas City, while Myles Garrett did not suit up for Cleveland — and left a group of backups to make the call.
Despite the measures, Cleveland (1-2-1) suffered costly injuries as a result of the encounter.

Shane Buechele, who has been vying with Blaine Gabbert for the Chiefs’ backup quarterback position, completed just 8 of 17 passes for 89 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions, one of which Thornhill returned for a touchdown against his former club.
Gabbert did slightly better, completing 10 of 18 passes for 169 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception.
Prior to the deadline for roster cuts on Tuesday, Kansas City’s Justyn Ross and Ihmir Smith-Marsette both caught touchdown passes for the team. La’Mical Perine was another standout, perhaps securing a backup position in the backfield by gaining 32 yards on the ground while gaining 44 yards and a touchdown on three receptions.
